MACCARI

Actress Writer Filmmaker

ABOUT

Veronica Maccari is an actress, writer and filmmaker from Monza, Italy. She studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City and then in Los Angeles, where she earned a BFA in Performing Arts. In New York she has performed on stages such as the Broadway Comedy Club, Shakespeare on the Sound, Time Square Arts Center and Tribeca Performing Arts Center. In Los Angeles she has performed in the hit Off-Broadway show My Big Gay Italian Wedding at the Hudson Theater, King Lear in Brand Park with Dean’s Productions Theater Company and a variety of films and commercials

Veronica traveled the world for years as an international-level athlete (a sailor!) prior to pursuing her acting career in the US, and the resulting tenacity and resourcefulness transpires in everything she does, on and off camera. She uses both intelligence and humor to bring risk-taking performances to life. Specifically, she is skilled at navigating genre-defying media like HBO and Hulu-style dramedies with her unique brand of wit, quirk and vulnerability. She borrows from Sarah Goldberg’s intensity in Barry and Emma Stone’s spunk in Easy A. Her range goes from raw Italian-based shows like HBO’s My Brilliant Friend to more comedic series like Hulu’s Shrill or soaps like Freeform's Good Trouble.

Additionally, Veronica produces, writes, directs and stars in her own film and theater projects. Her most recent short film, Polly Pocket, which she produced, wrote and starred in as the lead, has been selected by 16 international film festivals and has won four awards so far, including Best Actress. Currently, she is in pre-production for an original web series she is set to star in and direct.

As a fierce advocate for female and gender-nonconforming individuals of all races, Veronica’s dedication is fueled by the pursuit of thought-provoking storytelling that challenges the audiences’ expectations of womxn characters and, subsequently, of the womxn around them in real life.
